    Note From Race Director:
Elite Runner Kassi Anderson will be teaching a running clinic in Orem, UT on May 6, 8:00 pm, at Runner's Corner, 800 S 330 E (just east of State St)! Kassi is sponsored by Nike and runs professionally, and is a former NCAA National Record Holder in the steeple chase, National Champion, Olympic Trials competitor of 2008, and currently trains in Provo, UT, coached by Olympic marathoner Ed Eyestone. Don't miss this special opportunity to hear from one of Utah's greatest all-time distance runners as she gives tips to all runners and also unique advice for females!

Here are her PR's (un-aided, meaning not downhill):
    1500m 4:16
    Mile 4:44
    3k 9:18
    Steeple 9:44
    5k 15:56
    10k about 35:00
    Half about 1:15

Kassi's best events range from the 1500 M/Mile to the Half Marathon, but her focus this year is the 5K, 10K, and a few half marathons. She recently ran a 1:13 in the Hobble Creek Half Marathon! Kassi has an inspiring story of overcoming major setbacks in her running career with injuries most of us will never encounter, and has proved that nothing can discourage her with her brave come backs! Kassi was also the cover model for the August 2009 Runner's World Magazine! See http://runnersworld.coverleaf.com/runnersworld/200908/?pg=6#pg6

Any All-American Distance runners are welcome to attend for free and we welcome your comments and advice once Kassi is done!

Kassi currently works as a personal trainer, and in order to make it well worth her time to give out all this great information to so many people, I have offered to pay her for her time. She is being very generous sharing these treasures of knowledge from first hand experience training with Deena Kastor in 2008, the American record holder in the marathon (2:19) and half-marathon! I can't afford to pay the going rate for an elite runner to give personal training advice, but if we all pitch in together we can keep having people like Kassi teach us all together and make it worth their while!

I hope we have a good turn out so that we can not only help Kassi with her running career and show our support for the pioneering she has done and continues to do for distance runners in Utah, but to show that we want to support and value all runners who take the rough road to make it to the elite level.

We are limited to the first 50 people who sign up as space is limited, so sign up ASAP to reserve your spot!

Kassi will touch briefly on multiple facets of her running: which drills she does, what effort she does strides at, her strength training routine, how she trains for a half marathon, what her times are in her workouts, what she does to work out, getting motivated to train and run hard when training alone, psychology before and during training and racing, what music she listens to during her speed workouts, the importance of massage, mileage, effort on recovery days and bulk miles, nutrition and supplements, how much liquid iron she takes, how often she checks her iron levels and what number she tries to keep her iron level at, injury prevention, stretching, and other recipes for her success!

If anything is confusing because you are unfamiliar with advanced running, such as for beginners, Runner's Corner will have another elite runner there to explain and expound on what she has discussed after she is done at 8:30 pm.

Only $5 if you pre-register on www.RunnerCard.com (under the road race listings), $10 at the door. Members of Sojourners or URC cost $1 pre-registered, or $6 the night of the clinic. To join URC simply pay $10 online while registering or come to one practice this week (see www.UtahRunningClub.com). To join Sojourners pay $15 online while registering or join in their store. You will need to arrive at 7:45 pm if you haven't pre-registered.
